This summer, I had the joy of returning to Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts in the Smoky Mountains to teach a weeklong mixed-media sculpture workshop exploring how landscapes can be gathered, remembered, imagined, and rebuilt.

Throughout the week, an incredible group of artists transformed found objects, collected materials, personal histories, textures, fragments, and observations into sculptural landscapes. I loved watching ideas move from piles of materials and early experiments into forms that were wonderfully unexpected, deeply personal, and completely individual.

One of my favorite things about teaching at Arrowmont is everything that happens alongside the making: conversations across worktables, discoveries shared between studios, meals together, wandering through the mountains, and the generosity of artists willing to experiment in the company of one another.

Huge thanks to Olivia Hinkle for being such a thoughtful, generous, and all-around wonderful assistant throughout the week, and to the entire Arrowmont community for once again creating such an extraordinary place to make, learn, connect, and recharge.

I came home with more ideas, more memories, a few additional treasures, and a lot of gratitude.
THANK YOU
